e-MANcipate! pantyhose for men news page
'Pantyhose for men' article saved on Wikipedia by 4:1:2. During a five-day period seven Wikipedians left their opinion on the discussion page for deletion (that counts to eight including the user who nominated it for deletion). Four said 'keep' and don't merge with the 'Pantyhose' article; one said 'keep and merge', and two wanted to delete.
On Wikipedia they need a kind of consensus
for such a decision - it's not pure voting. Also the more experienced the member, the more his/her opinion does worth.
The article was accused of lack of neutral point of view, for containing original research, for being a soapbox, for displaying too different point of views, using unreliable sources, being a synthesis of other articles, and that it's "full of coercive statements". In regular words it means something like an amateur propaganda page.
Actually none of these statements were supported by facts, or at least by citations. As we have worked together with Geraden a lot to avoid these mistakes (partially with the help from other, more experienced Wikipedians) I was writing a kind of defense speech trying to prove that each of those 'charges' were weak, and asked for being more specific on each of them.
I had to dig into the rules and regulations of Wikipedia to find out some of the answers, like with the NPOV fork/Summary style. Luckily, Wiki is regulated by intelligent people with intelligent answers to complicated questions.
I also mentioned that the nomination wasn't done in a 'civil' way that is expectable from a user who aspires to become a Wikipedia administrator (as I found out that it was the case with the person who nominated the article for deletion).
And then waited and waited. I gave all my trust into the hands of
Wiki admins, and when I opened it next time I was extremely happy to see they decided to keep it. So the article will be presumably alive on it's six month old 'birthday' on the 5th of April.
